Theme of the project "Who is Who in Philosophy"

The Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, proudly presents the “Who is Who in Philosophy” project – an extensive, interactive, and educational initiative that aims to document and celebrate the legacies of the world’s greatest philosophers. The study of philosophy is a centuries-old discipline that cuts across intellectual movements, cultures, and ideologies. Its development has been influenced by the theories and creations of intellectuals who pushed the limits of human understanding. The goal of this project is to offer a thorough and approachable guide to these philosophers.

Purpose of the Project

The “Who is Who in Philosophy” project serves as a valuable resource for students, educators, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the rich tapestry of philosophical thought across time and geography. By showcasing the most influential philosophers from various traditions – including Western, Eastern, and indigenous philosophies – the project aims to:
Celebrate Philosophical Contributions: Highlight the ideas, writings, and impact of philosophers who have shaped intellectual history.
Provide an Educational Resource: Offer an organized and user-friendly database for those studying or researching philosophy.
Promote Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Encourage discussions that bridge the gap between Eastern and Western philosophical traditions.
In today’s rapidly changing world, understanding philosophical ideas can help provide clarity on complex societal issues, ethical dilemmas, and human existence. By providing a curated archive of the world’s great thinkers, ICPR seeks to inspire a deeper appreciation for philosophy and encourage individuals to engage critically with ideas that have stood the test of time.
