Chairman's biographical note
Prof. Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty is presently Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, Kolkata and Chairman, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi. He was a Professor of Philosophy at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He has been a Visiting Fellow at several Universities, including the University of Glasgow, U.K., the University of Pune, the University of Hyderabad, and the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Italy.
Prof. Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty is the Former Member-Secretary of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi. His research areas include Philosophy of Language (Classical Indian and Western Analytical), Epistemology, Philosophy of Religion, and Environmental Ethics. Some of his recent publications include articles like 1. ‘Transcendental, Transcendent and Philosophical Pursuit: Extending J.N. Mohanty’s Analysis’ (2025), 2. ‘In Pursuit of Education: How, Why, and Whom (2025), 3. ‘Classical Indian Knowledge Systems: An Overview’ (2025), 4. ‘Contours of Postcolonial Comparative Philosophy: Modernity, Philosophy and Science’ (2024), 5. ‘The Challenge to Being Virtuous: A Lesson from the Mahabharata’ (2024), 6. ‘Tagore and the idea of Emancipation’ (2020). Recently, he has edited Glimpses of Classical Indian Philosophy (2025), Exploring the Realm of the Mental (2024), Glimpses of Western Philosophy (2024), and The Bhagavad Gita (trans. by James Fraser) (2025). Three Pandits: In Search of a Forgotten Scholarship (2025) is his latest publication.
